Water heater repair
Your plumber starts by finding out exactly what's wrong — a failed element or igniter, a bad valve, sediment buildup or a leaking fitting. Many problems are a straightforward repair. If your heater is near the end of its life, we'll show you why and give you prices for both repair and replacement, so the choice is yours.
The brands we recommend — and why
A.O. Smith — tank water heaters
Dependable, affordable and easy to service. Our go-to for a like-for-like tank replacement.
Rinnai — tankless water heaters
Endless hot water on demand, sized to how many showers and appliances run at once.
Rheem — hybrid heat-pump water heaters
The most energy-efficient option for homes with the right space and household use.
We service every major brand, and we'll install a unit you've bought yourself once we've confirmed it fits.
What goes into a replacement price
The installed price covers more than the heater. Your plumber accounts for access, gas or electrical connections, venting, drainage and any code updates your installation needs — and gives you one firm price before starting. Switching from a tank to tankless can take extra gas or venting work, and we'll tell you exactly what's involved.
| Type | Best for |
|---|---|
| Tank | Lower upfront cost and a simple swap. Keeps a supply of hot water ready. |
| Tankless | Never running out, and freeing up space. Sized to how much hot water you use at once. |

What our
customers say.
“I have used OnCall for HAVC & plumbing services for over ten years. They have always been responsive and professional. If you need it done right and right now they are the people to call. Recently I needed a tankless water heater replaced. Jordan did a great job and took time to explain what he was doing so that I understood the whole process. Can't recommend them enough.”

“I was so impressed with Nathan from On Call Plumbing, Heating & Air. He explained why we were having a water leak problem so that even I could understand. And he offered a couple of solutions. Since he had the parts on his truck, he was able to completely rebuild the tank and the improvement was evident. The leak is fixed and we will save money on our water bill! We will know who we need to get it done right!”

He was really nice and very professional. Fair price, good service, and easy to work with all around.”
A few common questions.
My water heater is leaking. Do I need a new one?
Not always. The leak could be a loose fitting or valve rather than the tank itself — and those are usually a simple repair. Your plumber will find the source and tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense. Stay clear of any water near electrical connections.
Tank, tankless or hybrid — which is best?
It depends on your household. Tank heaters cost less up front. Tankless units never run out mid-shower and save space. Hybrid heat-pump models use the least energy to run. Your plumber will help you compare them for your home and budget.
How much does water heater repair or replacement cost?
Our residential diagnostic fee is $89, waived when you go ahead with the work at the quoted price. For a replacement, you'll get a firm installed price on site before anything starts. Pay by cash, check or card, or ask your plumber to walk you through financing options in person.
Will you install a water heater I bought myself?
Yes. Tell us before you buy and we'll confirm it will fit your space and connections.
Is my water heater still under warranty?
Bring us your model and serial number and we'll help you check. Manufacturer warranties usually cover parts; labor and service charges depend on the warranty terms, and we'll tell you what applies before any work begins.
